     NetOp Desktop Firewall

NetOp Desktop Firewall - Personal Firewall SoftwareThe new NetOp Desktop Firewall offers an innovative and powerful tool for protecting your network, PCs and Laptops. The NetOp Desktop Firewall is the first ever driver-centric desktop firewall. This means it loads and operates entirely as a driver, protecting the computer before Windows finishes loading and even before your PC connects to the network. In addition to traditional firewall control of ports and protocols (packet filtering), NetOp is the first and only desktop firewall to combine dynamic packet filtering with the control of processes and applications - killing all unauthorized programs, such as malware, at Ring 0, before they can communicate or execute. Plus, when combined with the optional NetOp Policy Server, every NetOp Desktop Firewall client can be centrally managed for simplistic configurations and policy updates.

The NetOp Desktop Firewall and Policy Server are designed to meet the needs of organizations that are serious about security. The NetOp Desktop Firewall is packed with features to help IT professionals get the most out of firewall technology with unique features for stand-alone users or as a centrally managed system.

NetOp Desktop Firewall v3.0

Process Control
The NetOp Desktop Firewall's Process Control feature is an extremely powerful tool that enables you to manage the processes running on your system. Using Process Control, you define rules that apply for any process and application. Unlike typical Firewall products that simply prevent a suspect application from communicating - NetOp gives you the ability to stop the process from running at all. You can also specify if you want to allow communication, only allow communication of a trusted network, or prevent any communication at all.

Security at the Driver Level
Unlike standard personal firewalls where process or application control, if any, is very basic - the NetOp Desktop Firewall provides security that is 100% at the driver level. This means any risk of a security breach when the system is started is eliminated. You stop both unwanted attacks on the computer and also unwanted processes from running.

Protection for, and from, mobile users
Not only does the NetOp Desktop Firewall keep your user's laptops safe when they?’re on the road, it makes sure that any malicious programs they?’ve downloaded can't  ?“escape?” when they get back to the office.

Intelligent Network Detection
By recognizing different security profiles
, depending on location, the NetOp Desktop Firewall allows you to do what you need to do when you?’re at home, but shifts to high security at work to protect your colleagues and company.

Packet Filtering
The NetOp Desktop Firewall dynamic packet filtering architecture works at the network layer controlling IP addresses ports and protocols. Dynamic packet filtering monitors the states of the connections and compiles this information in a state table. Because of this, filtering decisions are based in static packet filtering rules, but also on context that has been established by prior packets that have passed through the firewall. Due to its driver level functionality the NetOp Desktop Firewall can also filter network traffic at gigabit speeds with no detectable change in transfer speeds.

Minimal Overhead
NetOp utilizes minimal system resources so that the protected computer's performance is barely affected by its operation. In fact, the NetOp Desktop Firewall can even be centrally managed and deployed fully functional as a 75K driver and service, without a graphical user interface which can consume significant memory on a PC.

NetOp Policy Server

The NetOp Desktop Firewall can be centrally managed with the optional NetOp Policy Server. It includes the modules NetOp Policy Server Console, Master Server and Replica Server.

Centralized management and control
The NetOp Policy Server offers the ability to centrally control and manage the firewall configuration of all desktop firewalls on your network. Administrators and security managers can easily, and in real-time, define and manage the security level of each PC. By centrally applying profiles, administrators can ensure that security settings are adjusted automatically according to the computer?’s environment. And processes can be allowed or disallowed centrally, meaning that malicious programs can be eliminated within the first few critical minutes of an infection.

NetOp Desktop Firewall Control

The NetOp Policy Server assigns a Security Policy to a logged on NetOp Desktop Firewall specifying firewall rules for Programs, Ports, Protocols, Profiles, Trusted Nets and Banned Nets in real-time and also records information from the NetOp Desktop Firewalls.

Manageability
The NetOp Policy Server fully supports Microsoft Active Directory and can apply Security Policies to computers being members of the Active Directory Security Groups. This allows management of the infrastructure security to be performed from an administrator’s usual tool; Active Directory Users and Computers.

Fault Tolerance and Load Distribution
The NetOp Policy Server has a distributed design where there is one Master server that supports up to 32 replica servers for redundancy and fault tolerance to ensure maximum system stability and availability. The NetOp Policy Server can support thousands of NDF clients with a single Master. Redundancy is built in by pushing information on all replicas to all NDF clients along with their security policies. This way, any client can update their policy from any of the available replicas.
